Apprentices one year on. Where are you now: Jamie Herbert
Jamie Herbert from Sheffield completed his IT Solutions Apprenticeship at Meadowhead School Academy Trust in 2024. Since completing his apprenticeship with Inspire ATA, he secured a permanent IT job within a school. One year on from National Apprenticeship Week Jamie shared his story with us:
“I completed a IT Solutions Apprenticeship through Inspire ATA, which provided training in technical problem-solving, system management and end-user support. Now, I have secured a full time role and work in IT managing technology systems, supporting staff and students, and developing solutions to improve daily operations.
I chose an apprenticeship because I wanted to gain practical experience while working towards a qualification. It offered the perfect balance of hands-on learning and career progression.
An apprenticeship allows you to learn on the job and gain real-world experience while earning a salary. It also prepares you for the professional world by building practical skills and confidence.
The apprenticeship gave me the skills and confidence to tackle challenges in a professional environment. It set a strong foundation for my career and opened doors to new opportunities.
I aspire to specialise in networking, focusing on areas like infrastructure, security, and connectivity. I hope to design and maintain complex networks that enhance organisational efficiency.
The most valuable skill I’ve learned is problem-solving, as it helps me approach technical challenges effectively. This is vital in IT, where unexpected issues often arise and need quick, reliable solutions.
My advice to anyone considering an apprenticeship is: take the opportunity and make the most of it by being curious and proactive. It’s a fantastic way to learn, gain experience, and build a strong foundation for your career.”
Well done Jamie and good luck in the future!
