Property apprenticeship boosts confidence for apprentice Terence
Happy National Apprenticeship Week! Throughout this week Inspire ATA will be sharing stories from our apprentices to celebrate success and spotlight achievements. Today we are sharing the story of Terence, a 19-year-old Assistant Property Manager apprentice from Maunder Taylor. Here is his story:
“This was not the only apprenticeship I applied for as they are competitive, so I was really happy to secure this one with Inspire ATA. The idea of working within the property sector appealed to me as it’s a large industry and can lead onto a range of career paths.
The biggest benefit of doing an apprenticeship is learning whilst earning, alongside with the education being provided to me through the course. Day to day I am gaining knowledge and valuable experience whilst being able to save up money for the long term.
The best thing about my role at Maunder Taylor is the people, whether its colleagues or clients communicating with people of all backgrounds and needs has helped me to keep me engaged, learn and develop new skills and gain knowledge whilst building confidence.
My employer Michael has me provided me with a unique opportunity to learn and gain experience within property management, any questions I have he has an in-depth answer to, and he has helped me to develop skills which I can apply to aspects of my life other than work. My tutor Kayleigh has also helped me a lot, she works at a pace that suits me and answers any questions I have, I enjoy working independently but it’s good to know I always have a point of contact when in doubt.
The most important skill I’ve developed in this role is confidence. One of my tasks is to answer the telephone and when I started working here, I was anxious that I might say something wrong or not know how to respond to a question as I had no prior experience in this industry. Almost a year on and this is the opposite, I can confidently speak to clients and try to provide the best possible service for them by either assisting them myself or directing them to a property manager.
After my apprenticeships I would like to progress onto being a property manager in which I can manage my own portfolio of blocks, then potentially branch out into surveying/real estate as a long-term goal.”
Well done Terence and best of luck in the future!
