Recruitment apprentice Cemal develops career through apprenticeship

Happy National Apprenticeship Week! All throughout this week Inspire ATA will be sharing stories from across all our programmes to celebrate our apprentices and their success. Today we have Cemal, a 20-year-old Recruitment Consultant apprentice from Coulter Elite Resourcing. Here is Cemal’s story:

“I was really eager to break into the recruitment industry, however I was having trouble being given an opportunity without any experience. Luckily, I came across this apprenticeship which gave me an amazing opportunity to get my foot in the door into the recruitment world and it's a decision I’m so glad I made. It has allowed me to plan my future career path and also shown me opportunities to learn new skills I can take into any job with me.

There are many benefits to this programme, the main one being able to have an opportunity to come from no experience in recruitment to being allowed a chance to break into the industry. Another huge benefit is the skills and connections you learn and build throughout the process which is so important as you may never know what connections you may need in the future. It also allowed me to develop skills such as communication, organisation, confidence building, teamwork and so many other skills I can take into any job with me.

It is hard to nail it down to just one thing I love the most about my role, but I would say the main thing for me is interacting with different people every day. I have always enjoyed speaking and making connections with new people ever since I was young so to be able to do it every day as part of my job makes the work much easier and more worthwhile.

I have been supported by the team at Coulter Elite Resourcing. I can mainly thank Simon and Fraser who have supported me massively in my day-to-day work, helping me develop my skills and grow as a recruiter, not only that, but they always put mine and everyone's feelings before work which is important to me. In terms of my Inspire ATA tutors I cannot thank Suzanne and Jules more for the effort they put in for me, they go above and beyond to help me with any problem I may have and have taught me so much about recruitment.

One of the most important skills I have learnt is daily resilience. This role can be challenging as it is fast paced so it’s important to stay strong, stay confident and make sure you keep on going.

It is hard to say my next step as I am still young and new to this industry, hopefully I can stay and grow into a full consultant at my current company but other opportunities may appear but one thing is for sure this programme has allowed me to decide how and where I want my career to go and I believe recruitment is the right place for me.”

Best of luck in the future, Cemal!
