SEND Teaching Assistant Ruby excels in apprenticeship

Happy National Apprenticeship Week! Throughout this week we will be spotlighting stories from our learners from across all programmes. Today we will be sharing the story of Ruby, an 18-year-old SEND Teaching Assistant apprentice from Baskerville School. Here is her story:

“I chose this programme with Inspire ATA because I have always wanted to be a Teaching Assistant, and this programme sounded perfect for me to learn while getting the experience at the same time.

The main benefits are you will learn skills that are relevant to a particular career and gain work experience in that area.

The best thing about my role is I can support kids with SEN needs when they need it. Another great thing is seeing the students achieve things either it being little milestones or massive ones, it makes you feel proud and that you have achieved something.

I have been supported very well in my programme by the team from Inspire ATA and LMP Education. Both Jonathan Mvita and Julie Phillips have both always been there when I have needed support, and they have always made sure they help me when needed.

The most important skill I have learnt is problem solving, I think this is important because in many SEN schools you have to solve a lot of problems due to behaviour and other things, it is also an important skill because it is something you can keep with you for life and will help me further down my career path.

My next step is to carry on being a SEN TA and then maybe think about getting my SEN Teacher qualification.”

Best of luck in your apprenticeship, Ruby!
