Teaching Assistant Madi finds fulfilling career through apprenticeship
It’s the most important week of the year, National Apprenticeship Week! This week Inspire ATA will be sharing apprenticeship stories from across all programmes. Today we have Madi, a 20-year-old Teaching Assistant apprentice from Meadowhead school. Here is her story:
“I have previously worked in a childrens’ holidays clubs, where we took children out on trips during the school holidays. I found that I really enjoy working with young people and it can be very rewarding to work with children. I wanted to do this type of job as an apprenticeship so I can learn at the same time and build up new skills.
By doing an apprenticeship I have learnt skills that are directly relevant to the career I want. It gave me the opportunity to have work experience in this field. I think another benefit of an apprenticeship is the support you get, although you’re working you also get so much advice and help.
The best thing about my role is being a friendly face for the children I work with. It is very rewarding to have helped children learn new things.
Jules Williamson from Inspire ATA and Darren Birch have been an amazing support along my apprenticeship. If I need any help or examples for my written work, I know I can email my Inspire tutor and he will reply quickly with some help! They also check in regularly to see how I’m getting on at my placement and I know if I have any doubts or problems, they will sort that for me.
The most important skill I have developed is communication. Whilst being on my apprenticeship I’ve learnt how to speak and approach different situations depending on the mood of the conversation and depending on what the child needs for a positive outcome.
Although I’m not completely sure on exactly what I want to do after my apprenticeship, I know that there are many options available for me, including the next level of my current apprenticeship. This programme has allowed me to start thinking about what next steps I want to take, and I know that I definitely want to work children.”
Best of luck in the future, Madi!
