Anxiety in the Workplace
Did you know that anxiety is a normal emotion, it is one of our body’s natural reactions to stress.
Anxiety activates the body’s fight-flight-freeze response.
This means that the body prepares to either confront, escape, or freeze in the face of a perceived threat. Anxiety is not necessarily a mental health condition.
Most of the time, anxious feelings are normal responses to stressful situations in everyday life.
Below are some signs and behaviours that could indicate someone suffering:
- Difficulty concentrating
- Withdrawal from social activities
- Seeming tired, fidgety or absent-minded
- Constantly seeking reassurance
- Worrying a lot about minor issues
- Having frequent headaches, stomach aches, etc.
- Avoiding difficult situations
- Frequent unexplained absences
These actions may not necessarily signal anxiety or an anxiety disorder.
It's crucial that we prioritise our well-being and attentively engage with individuals who confide in us about their emotions.
