How to get a job after an apprenticeship
As you are about to complete your apprenticeship, you may be thinking about your next steps. Many people start to plan a career path in the field they have done their apprenticeship in. How can you leverage your apprenticeship to help you secure your dream job in the field you want? The team from Inspire ATA have gathered the top tips for you here.
Update your CV and professional profiles
Before any job searching can begin, you need to make sure you update your CV with all the new skills and experience you’ve gained in your apprenticeship. Make sure you also update any job board profiles you may have.
Network
An apprenticeship is a great way to network with others in your chosen field. Make sure to connect with different professionals you’ve worked with or met in your apprenticeship including your mentors, supervisors, and colleagues. Staying in touch with them will expose you to professional opportunities you may have not been aware of without those connections.
References
Most job applications require you to provide some references. Be sure to get contact details and a written reference from your mentors and supervisors to use in your next job application.
Apply for internal positions
Applying for internal roles within the company you are doing your apprenticeship at is a great way to get your foot in the door. Speak to your supervisor and see what open positions may be available at your placement that you could apply to. This tactic worked out great for our apprentice Amber.
Continue learning
Most apprenticeships offer a few levels of certifications that allow you to gain more knowledge, skills, and experience in your chosen field. For example, teaching apprenticeships offer a Teaching Assistant and Higher-Level Teaching Assistant qualifications. Some apprenticeships can even help you to continue your path to higher education and a university degree. Speak to your tutor or manager to see what further learning pathways are available to you.
To continue your journey, explore apprenticeship opportunities. Good luck from the team at Inspire ATA.
