World Mental Health Day 2024: tackling burnout

On Thursday 10 October 2024 it is World Mental Health Day. This year’s theme is mental health in the workplace. Across Inspire ATA we are actively supporting this initiative and addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace for our learners, staff, partners and communities.

The most pressing issue regarding mental health in the workplace is burnout. Burnout is recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) though it isn’t classified as a medical or mental health condition but a syndrome: a collection of symptoms or signs associated with a specific health-related cause. Burnout is a described as a state of physical, mental and emotional exhaustion and can occur when you go through long-term stress and feel under constant pressure.

Burnout can be caused by a number of work-related factors, some of the most common ones include money worries, working arrangement, worries about job security, isolation, and physical health.

This Mental Health Day is focused on giving employers, apprentices and colleagues a safe space and tools to address burnout in the workplace. By working together and tackling issues head on we can make workplaces a supportive place for all.
