Career progression via an apprenticeship
Starting an apprenticeship is an excellent way to kick-start your career. These programmes come with a range of benefits, from earning while you learn to the flexibility they provide. People of all ages can undertake an apprenticeship and they can really help to build and develop a career.
Did you know that many apprenticeships also offer clear progression pathways? In this article, we’ll explore the different ways you can advance through an apprenticeship programme and develop your career.
Understanding the different levels of apprenticeships
When searching for an apprenticeship you may see a level listed. These levels reflect the type of skills and knowledge you’ll gain. These levels are also equivalent to other educational qualifications.
Level 2 Apprenticeship
This level provides basic skills and knowledge in your specific role. This is equivalent to GCSEs. You normally do not need to have prior qualifications to start at this level, though you may need to be able to demonstrate that you are able to complete your course.
Level 3 Apprenticeship
This is an advanced apprenticeship level and is the natural progression from a level 2 apprenticeship and you’d normally need to have previously completed a level 2 or GCSEs to be considered for it. This is equivalent to A-Level.
Level 4 Apprenticeship
Level 4 apprenticeships are considered a higher-level apprenticeship, and it is normally equivalent to completing the first year of an undergraduate degree.
Level 5 Apprenticeship
This is the second of the higher-level apprenticeship and often focuses on more specific skills and knowledge. This is equivalent to a foundation degree.
