Why should you become an apprentice?

When looking at the options for career growth and personal development, apprenticeships are an option that many consider to be very beneficial. For National Apprenticeship Week Inspire ATA discusses how apprenticeships work and what makes them so great. Learn more below.

What are apprenticeships?

An apprenticeship programme is a route where you can gain a qualification while working in a job. In an apprenticeship learners spend part of their working hours in classroom-based learning with a college, university or training provider which leads to a nationally recognised qualification.

Benefits of apprenticeships

Doing an apprenticeship has many benefits and can be a great option for those wanting to break into a specific career field.

Enhance your CV

Getting into a job without work experience is a struggle that many job seekers face as many career routes require you to have some work experience as well as qualifications in order to land a job. On an apprenticeship route you will be able to work within your chosen field while getting your qualification, meaning that you will leave the programme not only with a nationally recognised certificate but also with a good amount of work experience to put on your CV.

Learn as you earn

Apprenticeships have an economic benefit over other education routes as apprentices work a full-time job and earn a wage throughout their programme. This allows you to learn as you earn helping you to focus on your studies without the pressure of finding a job.

Qualifications

Apprenticeships offer a range of qualifications from Level 2, equivalent to GCSEs, to Level 7, equivalent to a bachelor's or master's degree. These qualifications are fully recognised and awarded by relevant professional bodies.

Progression

Many apprenticeship programmes have set pathways that allow learners to move up the qualification levels within an apprenticeship route. For example learners looking to get into recruitment can start on a Level 2 Recruitment Resourcer Apprenticeship and then continue onto a Level 3 Recruitment Consultant Apprenticeship. This provides learners with a clear career path that can help them get into their chosen job. Learn more about career progression via apprenticeships

Support

Apprentices have a network of support around them throughout their programme from their tutors to their managers at work and mentors, making it a great place to learn and grow into your chosen career path.

Variety

Apprenticeships are available in a wide range of sectors from education to finance, business, hospitality and more helping learners to find the pathway that is best for them.
